Madurese

Madurese is a language spoken on the Indonesian island of Madura, off the northeastern coast of Java. It is also spoken in the neighboring island of Kangean, and in small pockets on the islands of Java and Sumatra. Madurese is a member of the Austronesian family of languages, which includes Indonesian, Malay, and Javanese. Madurese is thought to have originated in the 15th century, when the island of Madura was colonized by the Javanese. The language has been heavily influenced by Javanese, and shares many features with that language. However, Madurese is not mutually intelligible with Javanese, and is considered a separate language. Madurese is spoken by about 3 million people. It is written in the Latin alphabet. Madurese is a relatively simple language, with a relatively small number of phonemes. It has a basic word order of subject-verb-object. Madurese has two main dialects, Kangeanese and Madurese. The differences between these two dialects are not very significant. Madurese is not a widely spoken language, but it is an important language of the Madurese people. It is used in education, government, and the media. Madurese is also used as a lingua franca in the Madura region.
