Belarusian Ruble (2000–2016)

BYR is the currency of Belarus. It is subdivided into 100 kapeykas. The first banknotes were issued in 1992 and the first coins were issued in 1996. The banknotes were redesigned in 2009. The second series of banknotes was introduced in 2016. The National Bank of the Republic of Belarus is the central bank of Belarus and the issuer of BYR. The National Bank of Belarus is the sole body in Belarus empowered to issue banknotes and coins. The BYR is not convertible and is not traded on foreign exchange markets. It is pegged to the Russian ruble at a rate of 1 BYR = 1 RUB. As of June 2018, the BYR is the least valued currency in the world.
